Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa has opened up about her childhood, recounting the tragic loss of her parents in a fire incident.
The OAP disclosed this in a recent episode of her show, “Toke Moments,” during a conversation with comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY.
During the discussion, Toke Makinwa delved into her own experience with a house fire, prompted by AY’s recent encounter with a fire incident at his house.
The media personality said that the fire outbreak, which claimed the lives of her father and mother, remains one of her enduring “biggest fears” even to this day, as it left her in a profound state of anxiety.
She had questioned AY about a recent fire incident that gutted his Lagos residence and it brought back sad memories.
Reflecting on the trauma, Toke shared, “I’ve been a victim of a house fire when I was a kid, and unfortunately, both my parents died as a result of that. That’s one of my biggest fears.”
AY, visibly moved by this revelation, offered his condolences, stating, “Sorry about that. I’m just hearing for the first time.”
AY then recounted his own recent experience, revealing that he was on tour in Canada when his house was engulfed in flames.
He described the shock of waking up to 78 missed calls, acknowledging that the incident served as a point of thanksgiving for him, considering his family was on vacation at the time.
The comedian shared the surreal moment of discovering images of his burning house on social media platform Instablog.
He said, “Knowing fully well that my family was on holiday, that was my point of Thanksgiving.
“I woke up to about 78 missed calls that day. Any time I see something like that, I just know something has happened. I opened my phone and saw my house on Instablog.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Nigerians recently expressed outrage over President Bola Tinubu’s decision to include Toke Makinwa as part of his delegation at the COPE28 in Dubai.
