Nigerian singer, Simi has addressed the tendency of people to casually label anyone as their friend, only to be surprised when those individuals act negatively.
In a post shared on her Instagram story, Simi emphasized the distinction between being cool with someone occasionally and forming a deep friendship.
The singer urged people to protect their emotional space and not grant everyone who brings momentary joy access to their heart and spirit.
She acknowledged the difficulty of realizing that when one invests heavily in someone who doesn’t reciprocate, it doesn’t necessarily mean the other person dislikes them or is a bad friend. Instead, it may indicate that the person never saw the relationship in the same significant way.
Simi emphasized that it’s acceptable for others not to prioritize one’s life, and the key is to choose friends who actively choose to reciprocate the friendship.
The singer encouraged open communication when confused and concluded with a call to rise above self-pity and have a great day.
She wrote, “Y’all just be calling ANYBODY your friend and then act surprised when they act like your enemy
“You can be cool or vibe with someone every once in a while, but that def does not mean you’re now besties. Protect your space and stop giving every single person that made you smile once access to your heart and spirit.
“And this might be hard to hear (read) – but sometimes when you’re riding hard for someone that is not doing the same for you, it’s not always because they don’t like you or that they’re “bad friends” they probably just never really saw you the same way. you saw then.
“That. Is. Okay. Nobody’s life revolves around you except your own. Choose the people that choose you too.
“If you’re confused, communicate. Now stand up from your pity party and have a great day today”
KanyiDaily recalls that Simi recently showcased her genuine and grateful attitude towards life and her career as a celebrated musician.
