Armed bandits reportedly attacked Dangunu village in Niger State’s Munya Local Government Area, claiming one life and kidnapping 21 others.
The incident took place on Saturday night, with information revealing that the gunmen infiltrated the village by boat through the river between Chikun and the town.
Ahmadu Adamu, along with 16 members of his family, was reported to be among those kidnapped.
“Ahmadu Adamu and about 16 members of his family, including his wives and children, were among those kidnapped as well as five other members of the community. They carried them away ona boat on the Chikun river.
“The bandits gave Ahmadu a thorough beating leading to his death. A pregnant woman who was released by the bandits due to her condition broke the news to us.
“His body was dumped at the river bank by the gunmen for his family to pick up. What is happening to us is so painful,” a source in the village said
Additional information suggests that the assault may be linked to the involvement of informants, given that a majority of the farmers in the area have completed their crop harvesting
Efforts to contact Munya LGA Chairman, Mallam Abdullahi Najume, for comments on the incident were unsuccessful.
Also, attempts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report
Kanyi Daily recalls that Garam, situated along the border of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had faced continuous assaults by bandits since December 24, 2023.
