A newborn baby boy, delivered by emergency Caesarean Section, was abducted shortly after birth at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
At about 6 am on Tuesday, the incident took place in the post-natal ward of the state-owned specialist hospital.
According to reports, the caregiver, a relative of the 20-year-old mother (whose identity remains undisclosed), reportedly left the baby under the supervision of an unidentified stranger
The caregiver had reportedly left for home to pick something up when the suspect, described as wearing a yellow hijab and sporting a facial mark, took advantage of the caregiver’s absence, absconding with the newborn to an unknown place.
A hospital official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident and assured that it had been promptly reported to the police for necessary action.
The relative is in custody, and the hospital administration is working alongside law enforcement to guarantee a thorough investigation.
The hospital is presently examining CCTV footage to assist in identifying and capturing the suspect involved in the incident.
When reached out to, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, stated that he had not been officially briefed on the matter.
