The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, nullified the presentation and passage of the Rivers State 2024 budget by a group of four-member legislators in the State
Justice James Omotoso, in the court’s ruling, instructed Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the budget to the legally constituted House of Assembly under Speaker Martin Amaewhule
Omotoso nullified the withholding of the House of Assembly funds, asserting that there is no constitutional authority for such actions.
The court prohibited Governor Fubara from impeding the House of Assembly under Amaewhule or interfering in its affairs.
The Governor’s redeployment of the Clerk and Deputy Clerk was declared null and void and set aside
An immediate order was issued to the Inspector General of Police to provide sufficient security to the Speaker and legislators who are loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike
Justice Omotoso directed the Clerk and Deputy Clerk to resume their duties promptly and without any obstacles
The National Assembly was prohibited from assuming control of the Rivers State House of Assembly or considering any requests from Governor Fubara.
Governor Fubara was instructed to release all funds standing in the credit of the House of Assembly to Martin Amaewhule.
All the disputes were settled in favor of Wike’s loyalists.
