The Supreme Court ruling affirming Abdullahi Sule‘s victory as the governor of Nasarawa State has sparked widespread protests in Lafia, the state capital.
Demonstrators have shut down the Lafia-Jos highway, a crucial route connecting Makurdi and other parts of the North East, by blocking it with burning tires.
In response to the protests, banks, shops, business centers, and schools in the Lafia metropolis have hastily closed their doors.
The abrupt shutdown has left residents in a state of panic, leading them to call for an increased deployment of security forces to restore order in the state.
Reports indicate that the protesters are chanting war songs, asserting that the Supreme Court’s decision was influenced by influential monarchs several days before the official declaration.
Despite efforts to contact security agencies for intervention, no response has been obtained as of the time of this report, creating panic about an imminent crisis in the state.
