A 23-year-old man, Azeez Akinpelu, has been sentenced to death by hanging by a High Court in Ogun State for the murder of a minor
Akinpelu, a resident of the Owode area in the state, was convicted on six counts, which included conspiracy, possession of firearms, manslaughter, attempted murder
According to the prosecution counsel, the convict committed the offense on March 27, 2021, around 6:00 pm in Atala, Igbeyin, Owode Egbe area of Ogun.
He conspired with his friends to murder Rokibat Odeyale by shooting her in the head with a local pistol
According to him, during the Orile Igbeyin Day festivities, the residents of Igbeyin heard a gunshot coming from the crowd.
The defendant fired the shot directly at a group of children who were dancing culturally and entertaining the guests.
Justice O.O Stanley ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, finding Akinpelu guilty as charged.
She then handed down multiple sentences for the offenses, including death by hanging
