Nigerian singer, Asake has stirred controversy on social media with the release of the music video for his hit single ‘Only Me.’
In the video directed by TG Omori, Asake is seen dressed in priestly attire, distributing communion in a setting resembling a church.
The visual released on Thursday also features vixens dressed like altar servers, assisting in the church-like atmosphere.
The video has triggered a wave of criticism on social media where users accused Asake, a Muslim, of disrespecting and making mockery of the Christian faith.
Some users referenced a scene in his previous’Bandana’ video, where black goats entered a church, adding to the accusations of disrespect toward Christianity.
An X user, @Solomon_Buchi, expressed dissatisfaction, stating, “Asake keeps disrespecting the Christian faith in his music videos.
“Dramatizing giving the Eucharist, robed up in priestly regalia for a music video that has no connection with Christianity is disrespectful.
“In his Bandana video, he depicts black goats troping into the church, with cloven tongues of fire above weird men.
“Asake, I think, is a Muslim. Why doesn’t he go above and beyond to embarrass his Muslim faith in this same way? Why do Christians even listen to these musicians who bluntly disrespect Christianity?”
Another user, @sire_hades, commented, “This is not the first time, Asake, Olamide, and the entire YBNL are disrespecting Christians. Asake is a Muslim; let him shoot his video in a mosque wearing an imam’s robe.”
@rukky_nate added, “Christianity is the actual religion of peace, tolerance, and the gullible. The faith enjoins all to live in harmony, love and defend its name without chopping off heads.”
One Twitter user noted, “Christianity has lost its value until even Muslims are condemning what Asake did in this video.”
Asake’s act in the “Only Me” music video, where he and his vixens were adorned in “catholic clergy cassocks” is blasphemous.
The TG Omori-inspired concept portrayed Asake as “Christ” while his vixens were the “disciples.” His vixens caricatured the Christian style of “falling… pic.twitter.com/DPhwYhNfoh

The problem is not Asake but the TG guy director. Not the first time he’s mocking the church for his music video and he will always be Lousy about it.

I love Asake's music, but his recent actions are deeply disrespectful to Christianity. Dramatizing the Eucharist and donning priestly regalia for a music video unrelated to Christianity crosses a line. It's concerning that he doesn't extend this level of disregard to his own… pic.twitter.com/3sXPxilscU

Asake is a Muslim but can mock the Catholic Church.
David can't post a video he didn't make which had a mosque.
We saw Tinubu run a Muslim Muslim ticket and hired fake "bishops".
The religion of peace won't tolerate this. pic.twitter.com/b1YE6Mu1NC

Christianity is the actual religion of peace, tolerance and the gullible.
The faith enjoins all to live in harmony, love and defend its name without chopping off heads.
And that’s why folks like Asake; a Muslim could make a caricature of Christianity with zero repercussions. pic.twitter.com/DYruntwf48

Asake is a Muslim…
See what mockery he is doing to the Christian and Catholic Faith by displaying a charlatan.
Christians don’t fight to be the Religion of Peace.
We always know what we’re doing… https://t.co/YeNMc9aW5N

Asake is a muslim and the lyrics do not even correlate, this is just pure disrespect https://t.co/8ZevWtByEb

Is this not desecration of the Catholic Christian Faith by Asake ?
He is not even a Christian… Shouldn't Christians make demands like the others did to Davido ? pic.twitter.com/6KPrrRZDSM

Asake, a Muslim. The last time, carried goat inside church. This time he’s in the church again. When davido posted logos olori, muslims burnt his posters & were telling him to put out a public apology.
I don’t understand why he can’t do with his religion.

KanyiDaily recalls that Asake recently gave N5million to an ailing policewoman, Helen Utabor, for using her viral phrase ‘Epp me.’
