Adamu Danga, a 62-year-old man from Bosso Lowcost Area in Minna, the Niger State capital has been arrested by police officers for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl, he asserts that he carried out the act under the influence of palm wine.
Danga admitted to enticing the victim to the cemetery area while she was running an errand for her mother.
He said that he had consumed palm wine, which he purchased on his way home from the farm, and was under its influence at the time of the incident.
Parading the suspect in Minna, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the suspect was seen around Numui Cemetery without trousers and on top of a minor.
He explained that a witness who saw him raised an alarm, and the case was immediately reported to the Bosso Police Division on January 30, 2024
“Before the Police Division could mobilize to the scene, the suspect was pursued and arrested by a mob,” he disclosed
According to him, the suspect was immediately taken to the Bosso Division, where a preliminary investigation was conducted, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Minna.
Meanwhile, the girl had been brought to the police clinic for a medical examination.
Abiodun further explained that the case is still under investigation, and upon its conclusion, the suspect will face prosecution in court.
