Yetunde Kuti, the wife of Afrobeats sensation Seun Kuti, has shared insights into her family’s concerns when she decided to marry the musician.
In a video aired by TVC Entertainment, Yetunde Kuti disclosed that her relatives had expressed apprehensions that her life would take a negative turn if she tied the knot with Seun Kuti.
Yetunde elaborated on the perception her family held about Seun Kuti, influenced by the polygamous history of Seun’s father, Fela Kuti.
According to Seun’s Kuti’s wife, her family told her that marrying the musician would result in her becoming just one of his 35 wives.
Yetunde emphasized the importance of understanding individual motivations and breaking away from preconceived notions about relationships.
She acknowledged the challenges but emphasized the uniqueness of each marital journey, challenging societal expectations and judgments.
Yetunde said, “I have always had the idea of not wanting to be married, and my family was expecting me not to get married, especially to Seun.
“I grew up with people whose marriages were not stable and looked at it from their perspective, and I realized that everybody has their own reasons why their marriages didn’t work, and people can’t just continue like that.
“There’s a sacrifice that one has to make, but some people don’t want to make the sacrifice. My family said my life would end if I married Seun Kuti and that I would just be one of his 35 wives. They said his father married many wives and that he would marry more than him.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Seun Kuti recently raised alarm over threat to his life as he accused unnamed people of seeking to harm him for speaking the truth.
