A high-ranking Senator from the North-East has been exposed as one of the primary sponsors and financiers of banditry and kidnapping in the nation
The Senator, holding a crucial role as chairman of a Senate Standing Committee, is accused of direct involvement in the abduction of more than 14 students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, as well as four Corps members serving in the State.
Recall that in September 2023, a substantial number of students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State were abducted by bandits
Abubakar Sani, a resident of Sabon Gida village, reported to journalists that a significant number of bandits, in large groups, invaded the off-campus residences of students in the village. He noted that the majority of the abducted students were females
Sani said that the bandits raided the area at about 4:00 am on a Friday, targeting three hostels where students resided.
He said, “Many of the kidnapped students were females, while other students were able to escape to the bush.”
Credible sources at a topmost security agency confided that some of the kidnap victims, who preferred anonymity for fear of attack, alleged that the federal lawmaker was in constant conversations with the abductors, directing the activities of banditry to the extent of determining when and who should be released
The Senator, known for being a dedicated follower of a prominent controversial cleric in the country, is rumored to enjoy protection from high-ranking government officials, making him immune to legal consequences
Moreover, sources within the National Assembly have also pointed out that the Senator extends invitations to bandits for meetings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Just recently, four of the bandits’ top commanders visited him for a meeting in Abuja.
This represents a scenario where public officeholders are implicated in supporting and engaging in kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism, leading to the establishment of a multimillion-naira business empire and persistent insecurity in the country
Recall that just a few days ago, the Ogun State Police Command dismissed three policemen for their alleged involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, and extortion.
These officers were identified as Inspector Taiwo Kolawole, Inspector John Ogbe, and Corporal Idowu Sunday, all assigned to the Ijebu-Ife division of the Command
