Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O Kanayo, has offered a crucial piece of advice to parents and guardians, urging them to question the sudden wealth of their children and wards.
The actor, famous for portraying ritualistic characters in his movies, cautioned parents against accepting monetary gifts from their children without understanding the source of the funds.
Kanayo, who stated this in a video while addressing parents at an event, emphasized the importance of parents cultivating the habit of questioning their children about the origins of their possessions.
He expressed concern that a nonchalant attitude from parents was contributing to the development of corrupt mindsets in their offspring.
Kanayo urged parents to exercise caution when receiving expensive gifts from their children, especially if the latter are not actively engaged in substantial endeavors.
According to him, instead of celebrating and offering testimonies in places of worship, parents should be more diligent in investigating the legitimacy of their children’s newfound wealth.
‘Your daughter is 20, she is using a phone of N1.5 m, then she gives you N100,000 and you fail to ask questions about the source. You wouldn’t live long.
“That is what is killing a lot of parents. Your son who is not working returns home with some money or a car, and you do not ask questions. I’m warning you,” he said.
Kanayo’s advice earned him a standing ovation from the parents, who applauded him for addressing a pertinent issue affecting many families.
