In Kano State, the Police Command has apprehended 132 suspects for alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, and illicit drug dealing in two months in different parts of the state.
The state’s police commissioner, Hussaini Gumel, disclosed this in Kano on Friday, stating that the command had also apprehended individuals involved in motor vehicle, motorcycle, and tricycle theft, human trafficking, suspected fraud, and other crimes during the same period.
Gumel revealed that the command successfully rescued four kidnapped victims and two human trafficking victims, and recovered various items and goods during the operation.
Among the items recovered were two AK-47 rifles, one locally-made pump-action rifle, and four live cartridges
“We have arrested 65 suspected thugs (Yandaba), 22 suspected thieves, 25 suspected drug dealers, 11 kidnapping suspects, and 9 suspected illegal Forex hawkers from January to date in different parts of the state.
He added that since January 1st, there has been a significant reduction in all forms of major crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, car theft, drug dealing, and thuggery in all parts of the state
“The previous threats of daylight and night mobile phone armed robbery are now a story of the past, with no single record in the last two months.”
Gumel also stated that the command successfully dismantled trans-border syndicates of motor vehicle thieves, resulting in the arrest and recovery of a substantial number of vehicles.
