The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Gbolahan Olugbemi tragically committed suicide in his apartment in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Olugbemi had traveled from Lagos to Ogbomoso for the Easter celebration. Shockingly, his lifeless body was discovered hanging from the roof of his living room on Monday.
Before his untimely death, Gbolahan Olugbemi served as the head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Panti, Lagos.
His body was found with a noose around his neck in his residence on Petros Academy Street, Federal Low-Cost Area. Although investigations are ongoing, initial reports suggest it may be a suicide.
Olugbemi previously served as an Aide De Camp to former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala during his tenure from 2006 to 2007.
It was gathered that despite his effective policing, the DCP had been battling depression for some time.
His neighbors recalled seeing him occasionally with police security, but he often returned home alone.
One of his neighbours said, “Sometimes, he came home with police security. In fact l saw him recently driving personally into his beautiful mansion.”
“It’s only him we see around. His family is not usually seen with him.”
Due to his effective policing, he was was recommended for commendation for his handling of the ENDSARS protests in 2020.
Before his death, Olugbemi had served as Divisional Police Officer in Ilupeju Area Commander in Ajah, and was Personal Assistant to two former Commissioners of Police in Lagos State.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command for comment were unsuccessful.
