Nigerian music producer, Dr Roy has opened up about his challenging experiences working with popular gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo.
During the latest episode of the Honest Bruch podcast with Nedu of Wazobia FM, Dr. Roy recounted his experiences working with Mercy Chinwo and the record label, EeZee Concepts.
Dr. Roy, known for his role in producing some of Chinwo’s hit songs, expressed his dismay over inadequate compensation for his efforts.
He said: “Mercy Chinwo and I worked on her “Excess love” project and other tracks for 22 hours straight for days and I didn’t get my royalties.
“I used to put in long hours to help the gospel singer produce her songs. Throughout those moments, what had kept me going was the hope that I would make enough so that my family can be well off.”
The situation took a deep heartbreaking turn when Dr. Roy recounted a personal struggle he faced during a family crisis.
He recalled a time when his father suffered a stroke, and he reached out to Chinwo for support but was met with disappointment.
He said, “I once called her to assist me with anything when my father was down with stroke, but she had instead told me that ‘he will be fine.”
The music producer had to take pauses in-between to hold back his tears while making the narration.
Hours later, Dr. Roy shared another video where he clarified that his grievances were directed not at Mercy Chinwo but at EeZee Tee, the owner of EeZee Concepts, the record label they worked for.
“I was not calling out Mercy Chinwo,” Dr Roy clarified in the video shared on social media. “Mercy helped me when my father was sick and I remain grateful to her.”
