Binance Executive, Tigran Gambaryan slumped on Thursday during his trial at the Federal High Court Abuja.
The detained Binance executive, who is facing a money laundering charges, slumped in the open court over alleged ill-health.
This incident happened shortly after his case was called for trial by Justice Emeka Nwite.
When the court registrar called the case, Gambaryan did not come forward from his seat in the back row.
Justice Nwite asked where Gambaryan was, and one of the defense lawyers, who was sitting next to him, helped him toward the dock.
As they walked to the dock, Gambaryan collapsed, and the lawyer helped him sit in the front row.
Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi, explained to the court that his client was too ill to stand and that they had already filed a letter to notify the court about his condition.
Mordi said the trial could not proceed that day. “My lord, the case may not certainly proceed today,” he said.
Throughout the proceedings, Gambaryan rested on the arm of his seat.
On May 16, Justice Nwite had dismissed Gambaryan’s bail application, agreeing with the EFCC that he might flee if released.
Also, a tax evasion charge against Binance Holdings Limited and Gambaryan could not proceed the day before due to his absence in court.
KanyiDaily recalls that Tigran Gambaryan previously pleaded not guilty to the charges of money laundering.
