Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti revealed that his late father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, had over 100 concubines in addition to his well-known 27 wives.
Seun believes that monogamy doesn’t work, stating that while people knew about Fela’s wives, they were unaware of the many other women living in his house.
The singer shared this view on the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ Podcast, co-hosted by reality star Tolanibaj and actress Moet Abebe.
When asked about his thoughts on monogamy, Seun responded, “It doesn’t work,” stressing that a powerful man should have many women around him, as the ancestors intended.
Seun Kuti also mentioned that while people know about his father’s 27 wives, they don’t know about his over 100 girlfriends who also lived with them.
He said, “Monogamy doesn’t work. As a powerful man, you must have the support of numerous powerful goddesses. Women are in your life because the ancestors want to put them there. You share with them as you share with your wife.
“People only know of Fela’s 27 wives, they don’t know of his over 100 girlfriends that live with us in the house”
Seun previously explained that his father married 27 women on the same day to protect their honor, as the media was calling his female dancers and band members “prostitutes.”
Meanwhile, Seun Kidi and his wife Yetunde were friends for 16 years before they tied the knot in October 2020. They have a daughter together.
