Giving A Child Tribal Mark Without Consent Is Evil – Toke Makinwa
Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa claims that giving children tribal marks without their consent is evil.
In a post on X on Sunday, Toke Makinwa said she saw a beautiful beauty influencer with tribal marks, which made her reflect on the harm caused by the Nigerian culture.
She wrote, “Today I saw a beautiful beauty influencer with tribal marks and it made me think about the cruelty that culture brought upon us. Marking a child without his/her consent as a means of identification is Evil, I know our parents didn’t know any better, but damnnnn!!!!
“Thank God it’s abolished now. My grandma had tribal marks too. Some on her face and her arms, I wonder what life was like when she was younger walking around with it, though I’m sure a lot of people around her had same but thank God it’s canceled now.”
An X user responded by saying that tattoos are just modernized tribal marks and told Toke Makinwa to “rest.”
@Alaba_beverly said, “Tribal marks and tattoos, what’s the difference? Tattoos are modernized tribal marks. Rest abeg.”
Toke Makinwa replied, explaining that tattoos are a personal choice made by adults, unlike tribal marks.
She reiterated that marking children without their consent is wrong and expressed gratitude that the practice has been abolished.
‘Tattoos are a choice, marking a child without their consent is not the same. You rest, weirdo,” the media personality wrote.
KanyiDaily recalls that Toke Makinwa recently recounted challenges from her past, including academic struggles where she often found herself at the bottom of her class.
