“I Don’t Believe In One Wife, It’s Not Our Culture Or Tradition” – Kanayo O Kanayo [Video]

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed his views on monogamy, saying he doesn’t believe in having just one wife because it goes against African culture and tradition.

Kanayo, who disclosed this during a conversation with Nedu Wazobia on the Honest Bunch podcast, said he prefers polygamy, stating that monogamy is a foreign concept.

“I don’t believe in one wife. It is not our culture. It is not our tradition. It is not who we are. These are imported things,” he said.

The actor also said he didn’t know about divorce until he moved to Lagos from the southeast. According to him, Igbo men would rather stay in a marriage than get divorced.

He said, “I never knew anything about divorce until we came to Lagos. The Igbo man prefers to die in the marriage than divorcing.”

Despite his views, Kanayo O Kanayo has been publicly known to be married to one wife, Nneka Onyekwere, for many years.
