American actress and comedian, Erica Ash has passed away at the age of 46.
Her mother, Diann, confirmed in a statement on Monday, July 29, 2024, that Erica died after a long battle with cancer.
The statement reads, ‘We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend Erica Chantal Ash (1977-2024).
“After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she transitioned peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
“Erica was an amazing woman and talented entertainer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor, and genuine zest for life. Her memory will live eternally in our hearts.
“In honor of Erica’s memory, the family asks that any donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation or the Breast Cancer Foundation of your choice.
“We are grateful for the kind expressions of love and support during this difficult time.”
Born in Florida, Erica Ash graduated from Emory University before starting her TV career in sketch comedy.
She was on Logo’s The Big Gay Sketch Show for two seasons before joining the 14th and final season of Fox’s MADtv, where she impersonated celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg, Naomi Campbell, Mo’Nique, Lisa Leslie, Raven-Symoné, and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
In 2014, she starred as Mary Charles “M-Chuck” Calloway on the Starz comedy Survivor’s Remorse, which ran for four seasons until 2017.
Erica Ash also had a recurring role on BET’s The Real Husbands of Hollywood as Kevin Hart’s fictional ex-wife Bridgette.
After Survivor’s Remorse, the actress led the BET legal drama In Contempt, playing outspoken public defender Gwen Sullivan.
She also appeared in episodes of A Black Lady Sketch Show, Bless the Harts, Family Reunion, and Sacrifice.
Her final TV appearance was in a January 2024 episode of NBC’s Extended Family, created by Survivor’s Remorse creator Mike O’Malley.
