A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Afam Osigwe has been elected as the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the 2024 NBA election.
The election was held online from 12 am on Saturday and ended at 11.59 pm with the live results for all positions presented at https://go.ecnba.org/results/
As of the final compilation at 12:40 am on Sunday, Afam Osigwe secured the most votes, totaling 20,395.
His closest competitor, Tobenna Erojikwe, received 10,970 votes, while Chukwuka Ikwuazom got 9,007 votes.
Osigwe, a former general secretary of the NBA, will take over from the outgoing president, Yakubu Maikyau.
Here are the results for other positions filled by the newly elected NBA executives:
- 1st Vice-President: Sabastine Anyia defeated Bartholomew Aguegbodo.
- 2nd Vice-President: Mrs. Bolatumi Animashaun won with 26,534 votes against Pius Oiwoh, who got 11,121 votes.
- 3rd Vice-President: Mrs. Zainab Garba secured 23,550 votes, defeating Michael Olorunmola, who received 13,897 votes.
- General Secretary: Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara won with 25,713 votes, beating Abdulwasiu Alfa, who got 11,730 votes.
- Assistant General Secretary: Henry Ehi received 28,552 votes, defeating Oluwaseun Aka, who got 8,317 votes.
- Treasurer: Mrs. Blessing Udofa-Poromon won with 17,998 votes, beating Mbamala Chukwuemeka, who received 9,825 votes.
- Publicity Secretary: Mrs. Bridget Edokwe got 19,542 votes, defeating Charles Ajiboye, who scored 10,989 votes.
- Assistant Publicity Secretary: Miss Ebiere Ekpese received 26,955 votes, defeating Lawrence Ayewa, who scored 9,690 votes.
- Welfare Secretary: Nyada Auta secured 18,369 votes, beating Oaikhena Osagie, who got 12,855 votes.
