The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command clarified that social media activist, VeryDarkMan, was not arrested but invited for questioning.
Earlier reports claimed that VeryDarkMan was arrested by Nigerian Police operatives for allegedly exposing a criminal act.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju said that VeryDarkMan was arrested on the instruction of FCT Police Commissione, Benneth Igweh for exposing someone who allegedly scammed a Nigerian abroad.
However, FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh in a statement on Sunday night denied VeryDarkMan’s arrest.
Adeh clarified that the social media critic was only invited for questioning on allegations of cyber stalking, cyberbullying, and defamation of character.
He revealed that VeryDarkMan has since been released after voluntarily providing his statement to the police.
The police emphasized, “Contrary to the news making the rounds about the alleged arrest of Martins Vincent Otse popularly known as Verydarkman or VDM by the police, the FCT police command wishes to clarify that Verydarkman was not arrested by the police but was only invited for questioning on the allegations of cyber stalking, cyber bullying and defamation of character.
“He has since been released after voluntarily giving his statement on the allegations.”
This comes three weeks after VeryDarkMan was released on bail after spending two weeks in police detention over alleged cyberstalking and bullying.
