17-year-old American rapper, Kaeden ‘Baby K’ Holland was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree murder and weapons charges.
Kaeden ‘Baby K’ Holland was 15 years when he tried to kill a student on a school bus in Prince George’s County last year.
As part of a plea deal, the teenage rapper received a 25-year sentence with an additional 35 years suspended.
Holland will serve his sentence at the Patuxent Institution, a maximum-security adult prison that offers therapy and counseling for youth offenders.
He will also be on probation for five years after his release.
In May 2023, Kaeden Holland tried to shoot a student on a school bus, but the gun malfunctioned.
“Twenty-five years, that is a significant sentence, it’s top of the guidelines. And it was appropriate in this case because of the planning, the deliberation, the execution of what he wanted, which was to murder a child,” said Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.
During the case on Friday, August 16, the mother of the victim, Alisha Gray, stated that her son has been having panic attacks since the incident and refuses to use public transportation.
Prosecutors noted Holland’s quick temper and history of disrespect for authority, going back to first grade.
The judge decided that Holland would be tried as an adult, despite most similar cases being moved to juvenile court.
Holland’s defense argued that factors like poverty, lack of parental involvement, neighborhood crime, and exposure to violence contributed to his actions.
The rapper was shot in the leg at 14 and has lost multiple friends to gun violence, according to his attorney, Michael Lawlor.
During sentencing, Kaeden Holland expressed regret and apologized to the victim’s family and his own.
“God intervened, and (Holland) was unable to successfully complete his mission, but it was clear that he had a mission that day. And it was clear that we had a mission today, which was to hold him accountable and to get justice for our community and our victims, and that’s what we did,” the judge said.
Earlier this year, Holland pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and using a handgun during a violent crime. His plea deal called for a 60-year sentence with all but 25 years suspended.
Holland will serve his time in an adult facility and will be 41 years old upon release if he serves his full sentence.
The convicted teenager has released several rap songs and music videos under the name “Babyk2800,” with some videos garnering tens of thousands of views on YouTube.
