A fire broke out on Friday morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba.
The fire incident which happened this early morning around 2:20 am, damaged one of the two-bedroom apartments in Flat 5 of Block 21, which is a three-story building with two wings and 16 two-bedroom flats.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) conducted an initial investigation and found that the fire started from an electrical surge in the children’s room.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, said that the fire completely destroyed the children’s bedroom, leading to the loss of properties worth millions of naira.
He praised the quick response of the LASEMA Response Team, Nigerian Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for working together to control and extinguish the fire.
“Fortunately there was no loss of life and injuries sustained in the incident,” Oke-Osanyitolu confirmed.
“Also, victims and other occupants were enlightened on the proper use of electric appliances.”
As of 5 am, emergency responders, including firefighters, LASEMA officials, and police officers, were still working to ensure the situation was fully under control.
