Opposition parties have won several councillor seats in the local government elections held Saturday in Bauchi State.
Returning Officer Nasiru Hassan announced the results at the ward level on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
It is worth knowing that Bauchi state is governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under Governor Bala Mohammed.
Samira Maikano from the Young Progressive Party (YPP) was elected as councillor for Wandi Ward in the Dass Local Government Area with 1,610 votes.
She was declared winner after beating PDP’s Bashir Abdullahi who received 1,352 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) received 230 votes.
In the Darazo Local Government Area, Yunusa Muhammed of the African Action Congress (AAC) won the Papa North Councillorship Seat with 1,156 votes.
He defeated PDP’s Ashiru Muhammad, who got 1,053 votes, and APC’s Idris Muhammad, who received 290 votes.
In the Bogoro Local Government Area, despite not having a candidate, the Labour Party received the highest votes in Lusa Ward.
Lucy Yusuf of the PDP was declared winner with 2,168 votes compared to the Labour Party’s 2,200 votes and the APC’s 275 votes.
A total of 323 candidates from 10 political parties competed for councillor positions.
Results for the chairmanship elections are still pending and will be announced by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission.
