American music star, Mariah Carey lost her mother Patricia, and sister Alison on the same day.
Mariah Carey announced the sad news on Monday, August 26, expressing her grief over losing her loved ones.
She wrote, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
The singer expressed gratitude for the time she spent with her mother before her passing, adding, “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
The causes of death for her mother, Patricia, 87, and her sister, Alison, 63, have not been disclosed.
However, Alison’s close friend and caregiver, Dave Baker, told The U.S. Sun that Alison had been receiving home hospice care in her final weeks due to health issues, including problems with her internal organs.
Baker described Alison as a “highly intelligent, warm, and sensitive person” beneath a tough exterior and expressed how much he will miss her.
“I have known her for nine years and as her friend and, in recent months, her carer, I will miss her greatly. Farewell, Alison. May you now find peace, your tortured soul forever free from earthly pain,” Baker added.
Mariah’s relationship with her mother, Patricia, a former opera singer and vocal coach, was known to be complex.
In her 2020 memoir, *The Meaning of Mariah Carey*, she described their relationship as a mix of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment.
Patricia was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey, who passed away in 2002. The couple divorced when Mariah was just three years old.
Mariah also had an estranged relationship with her sister Alison.
In her memoir, she mentioned that she found it “emotionally and physically safer” to avoid contact with Alison and her brother Morgan.
“Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities .
“It’s never been only black-and-white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions. Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s,” Mariah wrote.
Mariah Carey’s father, Alfred Roy Carey, passed away from cancer in 2002.
KanyiDaily recalls that Mariah Carey’s billionaire ex-husband, James Packer dumped the singer over her ‘extravagant spending’ as well as a falling out over her reality TV show, Mariah’s World.
