The Federal Government has suspended four senior officers from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) amid bribery allegations involving popular crossdresser, Bobrisky.
This comes after social commentators, VeryDarkMan claimed in widely shared videos that certain officers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accepted ₦15 million from Bobrisky to dismiss money laundering charges against him.
This situation arose during Bobrisky’s naira spraying incident in April, which ultimately led to a six-month prison sentence.
VeryDarkMan also alleged that Bobrisky paid additional money to secure a favorable position in prison.
Bobrisky has denied these accusations, and both the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have initiated investigations into the claims made by the activist.
On Thursday, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board announced the suspension of four NCoS officials, stating that the decision was prompted by the viral video highlighting potential misconduct by the officers.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, who signed the statement, explained that the suspensions are intended to facilitate a thorough investigation into the allegations, and the results will be made public once the inquiry is complete.
He said; “Following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service.
“Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.
“Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.
“In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate”.
KanyiDaily recalls that the House of Representatives had also opened an investigation into bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
