A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe has urged President Bola Tinubu to address the new electricity tariff in Nigeria.
In a series of posts shared on his social media pages, Joe Igbokwe expressed concerns that the high cost of electricity could devastate businesses.
He shared his personal experience, revealing that his small office in Surulere, equipped with seven AC units, previously purchased over 300 units of electricity for N20,000.
However, according to him, the same amount of money only lasted for one day under the new tariffs, which he says falls under the “Band A” group.
Although he acknowledges that the power supply in his Lagos area has improved, the APC chieftain highlighted the urgent need to review the tariff system, as the current rates are unsustainable for businesses.
Joe Igbokwe wrote, “PBAT, PLEASE LOOK INTO THE NEW ELECTRICITY TARIFF IN NIGERIA. IT WILL KILL BUSINESSES IF THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT ACT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. I HAVE A SMALL OFICE IN SURULERE WITH ABOUT ABOUT 7 UNITS OF AC. WE USED TO BUY 300 PLUS UNITS FOR N20,0000. YESTERDAY WE BOUGHT N20,000 WORTH OF UNITS AND IT LASTED FOR JUST ONE DAY. THEY CALL IT BAND A GROUP. I PRAY THAT WE REVIEW THIS.
He added, “There has been a significant improvement in power supply in my area in Lagos but something happened yesterday in Surulere. We bought N20,000 worth of units yesterday and it finished the same yesterday. What happened even at a time like this.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Joe Igbokwe supported Bola Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket during the 2023 presidential election.
