Seun Kuti, the son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has revealed that his late father treated him differently from his other siblings.
Speaking on the Zero Conditions podcast, Seun Kuti opened up about his childhood, saying he was his dad’s favorite and was very spoiled as a result.
He revealed that while his siblings might think of Fela as a “terrible dad,” Seun felt he was an incredible father to him.
The musician went on to say that because he was so pampered growing up, he has never done laundry in his entire life.
He said, “I won the daddy lottery. Fela Kuti is my favourite person in the world. If you asked my brothers they could say he’s a terrible dad but to me, he was an amazing father.
“You don’t know how spoilt I was growing up. Till now, I have never done laundry in my life. I don’t know how to wash anything. I’m not bragging.”
Seun Kuti also revealed that he joined his late father’s band, Egypt 80, when he was just 8 years old.
“I have been with Fela’s Egypt 80 band since I was 8 years old. So when Fela died my family asked me to continue with the band & keep all the money I make,” he added.
