Popular rapper, Nicki Minaj has revealed that she isn’t a citizen of United States despite paying “millions” in taxes.
During a recent TikTok Live session with a fan, Nicki Minaj disclosed that she isn’t officially considered a U.S. citizen.
The rapper revealed that she moved from Trinidad & Tobago to the US as a child without legal status.
Although she’s paid millions in taxes over the years, Minaj said she has yet to gain American citizenship.
“I’m not a citizen of America. Isn’t that crazy?” she said during the session.
She added, “I was born on a beautiful island called Trinidad and Tobago. But I’ve been in the States for many years. You would think that with the millions of dollars that I’ve paid in taxes to this country that I would have been given an honorary citizenship many, many, many thousands of years ago.”
Nicki Minaj has spoken about her immigration status before.
Back in 2018, she condemned the Donald Trump administration’s immigration policies at the U.S.-Mexico border, particularly the separation of children from their parents.
She said that she arrived in America illegally at five years old and couldn’t imagine experiencing what those children went through.
“I came to this country as an illegal immigrant @ 5 years old,” she wrote at the time.
“I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5. This is so scary to me. Please stop this. Can you try to imagine the terror & panic these kids feel right now? Not knowing if their parents are dead or alive, if they’ll ever see them again… 🇺🇸.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Nicki Minaj was recently arrested for allegedly carrying drugs while traveling from Amsterdam to Manchester for her Pink Friday 2 World Tour.
