The Maeba family is mourning the passing of their matriarch, Mrs. Erefori Nawa Maeba, who died on September 5th, 2024, after a brief illness at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
Mrs. Maeba was the mother of Senator Lee Ledogo Maeba, a prominent political figure who served in the National Assembly from 2003 to 2011, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream). He was also a Rivers State governorship aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections.
A statement released by Letam Ledum Godgift, Special Assistant to Senator Maeba on Media and Publicity reads;
”It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs Erefori Nawa Maeba, a beloved mother, community pillar and compassionate soul. Mrs Maeba passed away yesterday September 5th, 2024 at 11:45AM after a brief illness at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH). The octogenarian was the beloved mother to distinguished Senator Lee Ledogo Maeba, who has been a representative of the Rivers South East Senatorial District. She was widely admired for her love and great deeds for humanity.
We offer our deepest condolences to the Maeba family and the community during this difficult time, and extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who were touched by her life and legacy. May her memory be a blessing and a source of comfort for all who knew and loved her”.
Recall that during the 2023 governorship elections in Rivers State, the residence of the former senator was attacked by gunmen.
