Isau Ogunkunle has secured a bronze medal for Team Nigeria in the men’s para-table tennis event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Ogunkunle lost his semi-final match 3-1 against world number two, Young-Gun Kim of South Korea, but still earned the bronze since losing semi-finalists in para-table tennis automatically receive bronze without an additional match.
Isau Ogunkunle started strong by winning the first set but eventually lost the match 3-1 (11-9, 5-11, 4-11, 11-13), narrowly missing a chance to push the game into a fifth set after a tight fourth-set tiebreak.
This bronze brings Team Nigeria’s total to five medals at the games, including one gold, two silver, and two bronze.
KanyiDaily had earlier reported that Flora Ugwunwa won silver in the women’s Javelin F54 event, with a throw of 19.26m.
The gold went to Uzbekistan’s Nurkhon Kurbanova, who set a world record with 21.12m, while Iran’s Elham Salehi took bronze with 16.24m.
