At least 60 bodies have been found after a tragic boat accident in Niger State.
The Press Secretary to the Chairman of Mokwa Local Government, Abubakar Dakani, confirmed that the boat, which was carrying more than 300 people, capsized at the dangerous Gbajibo River in Mokwa yesterday evening.
The passengers were traveling from Mundi to Gbajibo for the Annual Maulud celebration when the accident happened.
According to the report, Chairman Abdullahi Muregi stated that around 60 bodies have been recovered so far, with 10 survivors found.
Rescue operations are still ongoing with the help of the State Emergency Management Agency and local volunteers to locate the missing passengers.
A similar incident occurred in January when a boat carrying over 100 people capsized, leading to the deaths of many individuals who were on their way to harvest crops.
