The protesters, mostly youths, said they were there to ensure the electoral process proceeded as planned on Saturday.

Despite heavy rain, the protesters set up canopies, drummed, and blocked one side of the road on Friday morning.

Among those present were Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to the Governor; Victor Oko-Jumbo, Speaker of the pro-Fubara lawmakers; and Sokari Goodboy, who represents Ahoada West.

The protest followed an early-morning visit by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who said he arrived at the RSIEC office around 1 a.m. to prevent the state police from taking over the facility.
