The Court of Appeal in Abuja has voided the N800 billion budget passed by five members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Edison Ehie.
The court upheld a previous Federal High Court ruling, and dismissed the appeal from Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, stating it had no merit.
The court noted that Governor Fubara had withdrawn his counter-affidavit during the earlier trial and, therefore, could not appeal a case he didn’t contest at that stage.
The judges also emphasized that Governor Fubara should follow the rule of law, not the rule of power.
They criticized the situation in the Rivers State House of Assembly, calling it an act of executive dictatorship by the Governor and a joke taken too far.
KanyiDaily recalls that several secretariats were set on fire by arsonists on Monday, just 24 hours after the local government elections in Rivers state.
