The Federal Government has dropped the money laundering charges against Tigran Gambaryan, a detained executive of Binance Holdings Limited, due to his worsening health condition and diplomatic involvement.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gambaryan was the second defendant in the case brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the cryptocurrency platform, Binance Holdings Limited, which is the first defendant.
EFCC’s lawyer, R. U. Adagba, informed Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja that the government had decided to drop the charges against Gambaryan because of his deteriorating health.
However, the judge clarified on Tuesday that the case against Binance Holdings Limited would continue.
After hearing from both the prosecution and defence, Justice Nwite officially discharged Gambaryan from the case and scheduled further hearings on the charges against Binance for November 22 and 25.
KanyiDaily had reported how Tigran Gambaryan was previously brought into the Federal High Court in Abuja in a wheelchair.
