Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after spending five days in police custody.
KanyiDaily had reported how Speed Darlington was declared missing for three days after he publicly criticized Nigerian artist Burna Boy, claiming Burna’s Grammy win was sexually linked to his connection with U.S. music mogul Diddy, who is currently facing legal trouble.
It was later revealed that Speed Darlington was arrested after Burna Boy filed a complaint with the police regarding the slanderous comments.
Nigerian activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju also confirmed that Darlington’s arrest stemmed from a petition filed by Burna Boy who accused him of defamation and cyberstalking, leading to his detention in Abuja.
On Tuesday night Adeyanju provided an update on Facebook, confirming that Speed Darlington had been released after fulfilling the bail conditions set by the police in Abuja.
He posted photos with Darlington at his office, thanking people who helped with the case, including activist Omoyele Sowore and lawyer Stanley Alieke.
Adeyanju expressed his gratitude by stating, “Special appreciation to Egbon @YeleSowore , super reliable senior lawyer @stanalieke and to all Nigerians for raising their voices for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for the professionalism today.

Nigerians have since been reacting to Speed Darlington’s release and his controversial remarks about Burna Boy.
This arrest might be connected with a video Speed Darlington published in September where he questioned Burna Boy’s sexuality.
