Chief Muniru Balogun, the father of Nigerian music star Wizkid, has spoken about his son’s ongoing rivalry with fellow artist Davido.
The tension between Wizkid and Davido has long been a hot topic in the music world, with both artists having huge fanbases and playing major roles in the rise of Afrobeats globally.
In an interview with Punch, Chief Balogun acknowledged that he was aware of the beef between the two musicians and had seen what people were saying about it on social media.
When asked about the rivalry, he responded, “Yes. I’ve read it. I saw it on Facebook or Instagram and I read what everybody was saying.”
Addressing the situation, he said he had advised Wizkid not to pay attention to Davido’s supporters, who he believes are just seeking ways to benefit financially.
He encouraged his son to take it easy and ignore any negativity, explaining that he doesn’t hold it against them.
Chief Balogun said, “I have done that and I told my son that he shouldn’t look or listen to whatever the boys who are supporters of Davido are saying.
“The supporters are only looking for what they will say to collect money and all of that.
“They are just looking for what they are going to eat and I told him not to pay much attention to them.
“I’ve told my son to take things easy with them and overlook whatever they say because I don’t blame them”.
When asked about his relationship with Wizkid despite his superstar status, Chief Balogun said that they maintain regular contact, emphasizing that Wizkid remains very close to his family and values them highly.
“We talk very often. We talk regularly and he is not far from me at all. He is someone that is very close to his family and he doesn’t joke with his family at all.
“If I have anything to discuss, I call him and he does that too. In fact, he is not far from the family at all; he sees family as number one,” he added.
This comes a few days Wizkid took to social media to drag Davido who ignored his rants for more than 24 hours.
