British rapper and YouTuber, Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, has been arrested in Australia on suspicion of raping a woman in a hotel.
The 29-year-old was taken into custody in Brisbane on Tuesday and later extradited to Perth, where he appeared in court on Thursday, October 9.
Yung Filly faces multiple charges, including three counts of assault causing bodily harm and four counts of sexual penetration without consent.
The allegations stem from an incident on September 28, when Barrientos is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s at a Perth hotel, following a performance at Bar1 Nightclub in Hillarys.
Yung Filly is currently touring Australia, and the alleged assault occurred after a nightclub show on September 27.
According to ABC Australia, the rapper is being represented by barrister Seamus Rafferty SC.
Police prosecutor Julius Depetro opposed Barrientos’ bail request, presenting photos of the woman’s injuries to the magistrate.
Depetro argued that the severity of the alleged acts went beyond what could be considered consensual, describing the injuries as evidence of violent behavior.
The prosecution said: “No ordinary person can consent in these circumstances.
“Across her body is a history of violent acts… We say these photos and what is alleged is beyond the pale, beyond what could be considered to be a consensual act.”
Yung Filly, originally from Cali, Colombia, moved to the UK as a child, first living in Orpington, Kent, before relocating to south-east London, where he became involved in the local grime music scene.
He gained widespread recognition in 2017 after releasing songs and building a large following on YouTube, where he currently has 1.4 million subscribers.
In addition to his music career, Yung Filly has hosted several TV shows, including Yung Filly’s Celeb Lock-in and Hot Property on the BBC. He also appeared on The Great Celebrity Bake Off on Channel 4 in 2022.
