American rapper, Cardi B has clapped back at Tesla CEO, Elon Musk after he labeled her a “puppet” for Kamala Harris’s campaign.
In a recent rally speech, Cardi B addressed women’s rights with passion, drawing a parallel between her journey and that of Harris.
She said, “Just like Kamala Harris, I too have been the underdog, I’ve been underestimated, my success belittled and discredited. Let me tell you something: Women have to work ten times harder, perform ten times better, and still people question us, how we got to the top. I can’t stand a bully, but just like Kamala, I always stand up to one.”
Elon Musk shared a clip of Cardi B’s speech on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting she lacked genuine expression and was merely echoing others.
He commented, “Another puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words. The Kamala campaign has no authenticity or true empathy.”
In response, Cardi B defended her background, sharing her upbringing as a child of immigrant parents who struggled to support her.
She tweeted, “I’m not a puppet, Elon. I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents that had to work their ass off to provide for me! I’m a product of welfare, I’m a product of section 8, I’m a product of poverty, and I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you… But you don’t know nothing about that. You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle… PS fix my algorithm.”
This exchange unfolds in the lead-up to the November 5 U.S. presidential election, where Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, will challenge Republican Donald Trump.
While Harris has the chance to become the first Indian American president, a Carnegie Endowment survey hints she may draw fewer votes from this community compared to President Joe Biden in 2020.
