Nigerian social media influencer, Daniel Regha has shared his thoughts on Morayo, the new album released by Afrobeats star Wizkid.
The album, which dropped on Friday November 22, has generated a lot of buzz among fans and music enthusiasts.
Inspired by the loss of his mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, last year, Wizkid described Morayo as a tribute to her memory.
The title Morayo, meaning “I See Joy” in Yoruba, reflects themes of love, life, and his mother’s enduring legacy.
Following the release today, Daniel Regha took to his X page, offering a critical review that sharply contrasted the glowing reception from fans who hailed ‘Morayo’ as a contender for album of the year.
Regha rated Morayo a mere 3.5 out of 10, stressing that none of the songs truly honor Wizkid’s late mother, despite how the album was marketed.
He also criticized the track “Bad Girl,” featuring another Nigerian singer Asake, calling it an unnecessary collaboration that failed to showcase either artist’s talents.
Regha further claimed that Morayo felt more like a collection of filler tracks than a cohesive project, suggesting it would have worked better as a shorter EP with just 4–5 songs.
He accused Wizkid of prioritizing quantity over quality and argued that many of the songs sounded repetitive, with lyrics seemingly tailored for TikTok trends rather than artistic depth.
He wrote, “”Morayo” by Wizkid is a quantity over quality album, literally two songs divided into subparts. It might be a commercial success due to hype, but unf@rtunately it’s n@t the album of the year people hope it will be. A lot of songs sound repetitive, with lyrics showing that it was produced with just Tiktok in mind as there’s n@ spark, the track “Bend” is proves this. Now asides “Pray, and Kese (Dance)” which are a little refreshing, most tracks sound like songs that didn’t make it to his previous projects.”
“Bad Girl” ft Asake was also a w@ste of collaboration as neither of the artistes did anything meaningful despite their talent. It’s also surprising that no song was dedicated to his beloved mom. Frankly speaking, Wizkid needs new musical ideas. The album is a 3.5/10 mainly due to the beats, & the experimentation of new sounds. It would’ve been best if this was an EP with 4-5 songs. No offense.”
Regha’s critique has sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing with his assessment while others defended Wizkid’s artistic vision.
