Suspected bandits ambushed a vehicle carrying Jummai Kefas, the mother of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, on Thursday along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the governor’s sister, Atsi Kefas, was injured by gunfire during the attack on December 5, 2024.
Dauda Agbu, the Chairperson of Wukari LGA, confirmed the incident on Friday, describing it as “deeply troubling.”
The LGA Chairman assured that no lives were lost and provided an update on Atsi Kefas’s condition.
“Miss Atsi Kefas sustained a gunshot wound. She was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari, where her condition was stabilised before being airlifted to Abuja for further medical attention,” he said.
Agbu encouraged residents to remain calm as security forces work to track down those responsible for the attack.
The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, Usman Abdullahi, also confirmed the incident.
He stated that the Wukari division had reported an armed robbery on the Wukari-Kente road but couldn’t verify if the governor’s family members were involved.
“The signal did not ascertain that the victims were family members of the state governor. Yes, we received a report of a robbery attack on Wukari-Kente road in the early hours of yesterday, but I can’t confirm whether the governor’s mother and sister were among the victims.
“The incident is being investigated, and hopefully, the perpetrators of the act will be brought to book,” Abdullahi added.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) recently urged President Bola Tinubu to allow Kaduna-based Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, to negotiate with bandits.
