Amid the ongoing leadership crisis shaking the Lagos State House of Assembly, former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa made a dramatic return to the Assembly Complex on Thursday.
Obasa arrived under tight security, flanked by heavily armed officers, marking his first public appearance at the legislative chambers since his removal as Speaker on January 13, 2025.
Outside the complex, his supporters gathered in large numbers, chanting and showing their allegiance to the lawmaker representing Agege Constituency I.
Mudashiru Obasa’s return comes just as security aides assigned to the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, were reportedly withdrawn.
Meranda’s Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, alleged in a brief statement that Obasa and his team forcibly entered the Speaker’s office.
Meanwhile, a source close to Obasa confirmed their presence at the Lagos House of Assembly.

KanyiDaily recalls that Mudashiru Obasa was ousted in January after more than two-thirds of the Assembly members voted him out over alleged misconduct. His former deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was swiftly sworn in, making history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
