Major League Soccer (MLS) has fined Inter Miami forward, Lionel Messi after he was caught grabbing a New York City FC coach by the neck during a heated exchange.
The incident occurred at the end of Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw with New York City FC on February 22.
Following the match, the MLS Disciplinary Committee ruled that Messi had violated the league’s policy against putting hands on an opponent’s face, head, or neck.
During the confrontation, Messi was seen placing his hand on the back of the coach’s neck while arguing.
The 37-year-old’s actions led the league to take disciplinary action.
Messi had just assisted a last-minute equalizer by Telasco Segovia in the match at Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium when tensions escalated.
