Ngerian rapper Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, has finally spoken out after the court cleared him of any involvement in the death of fellow artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
On Tuesday, a Yaba Magistrate Court cleared Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy of any involvement in the Mohbad’s death.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Marley shared his thoughts on the situation, revealing that despite their past conflicts, he and Mohbad had resolved their differences before the tragic incident.
He expressed deep frustration over the way the situation has unfolded, particularly the delays surrounding Mohbad’s burial and the conflicting narratives that have emerged since his passing.
The rapper reflected on the pain and accusations he has endured, saying: “I never thought silence could be so loud. I never thought someone I called my brother, someone I protected, would leave this world with my name in his shadow. I have carried this weight, this pain, this shame that was never mine to bear.
“We, as Marlians, were not perfect. We had to grow, we had to adapt.
Acknowledging past mistakes, he admitted that while there were challenges, their disagreements were business-related and never personal.
According to him, he and Mohbad had made peace long before his untimely death.
Naira Marley said, “Mistakes were made, but they were business-never war. I made peace with Mohbad. We understood each other beyond the noise, beyond the misunderstandings. And you know this.
“Yet when he took his last breath in you all”s arms, you looked at the world and pointed at me. You let them tear me apart. You let them call me a killer while you sat there, knowing the truth. Now you tell the story?”
The rapper also criticized those around Mohbad, blaming them for delaying his burial and failing to set the record straight earlier.
“I welcomed you all into my home. I gave you my trust. And yet, my brother is gone, still not buried, and that is your fault.
“Telling the truth from the beginning would have given him the rest he deserves. Regardless I will always be there for him,” he said.
Addressing the backlash he has faced, Marley stated that many expected him to run, but instead, he chose to face the justice system head-on.
The Marlian boss pointed out that he spent time in jail, endured public scrutiny, and watched as the narrative kept changing.
He wrote, “You never thought I would survive. You never thought I would walk through the fire and face my people, maybe you hoped I would stay a fugitive. You thought I would run. Instead, I stood before the justice system, spent time in jail, and faced everything head-on while you changed the story, again and again.
“But God sees all. The truth does not shake. The lies will fade, and time will reveal everything.
I have been broken, but I am not destroyed. And when the truth finally speaks, I pray your heart is strong enough to bear it.”
His statement comes a day after the court ruled that neither he, his associate Sam Larry, nor Prime Boy had any case to answer regarding Mohbad’s death.
However, the court did order the prosecution of the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to Mohbad, along with his friend Ayobami, for reckless and negligent actions.
Since Mohbad’s tragic passing, Naira Marley has been at the center of controversy, with many accusing him of involvement despite his consistent denials. The situation has taken a toll on his reputation, and public opinion remains divided.
Mohbad, once signed to Marley’s Marlian Music label, had parted ways with the record company following a fallout. His sudden death sparked outrage, leading to demands for justice and accountability.
KanyiDaily recalls that Naira Marley previously faced backlash for allegedly mocking Mohbad’s death in his song with Zinoleesky.
