Popular on-air personality (OAP) Nedu Wazobia has issued a pre-action notice to social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM), accusing him of defamation.
The controversy started when reality star DeeOne claimed on Nedu’s “The Honest Bunch’ podcast that VeryDarkMan had relationships with men.
In his response, VeryDarkMan alleged that Nedu Wazobia was behind the accusations and had also leaked their private conversations.
VDM went further, accusing Nedu of sexual exploitation, saying he had confided in him about his past relationships with women.
As the situation escalated, Nedu stepped down as one of the podcast’s hosts, a report that was described by VeryDarkMan as being sacked.
Adding to the dispute, VeryDarkMan also claimed that the Nedu Scholarship Foundation (NDSCHF) had scammed a non-governmental organization (NGO) that sought to partner with the OAP.
In a letter dated February 24, Nedu’s legal team stated that VDM had shared videos on social media containing “false and defamatory statements” against him.
The letter also mentioned that police investigated the fraud allegations and found no case against Nedu, with the matter not proceeding to court.
Nedu’s lawyers are demanding that VDM delete all videos related to him within 24 hours, issue a public apology, and pay N500 million in damages. They warned that failure to comply would lead to further legal action.
The lawyers further stated that while freedom of speech is a fundamental right, it should be exercised responsibly, emphasizing that spreading false claims with the intent to harm someone’s reputation is unacceptable.
“The rest of the video included you uttering similar false narratives and defamatory remarks that you stated in the previous video. Same was done in the other 2 videos you have posted relating to my Client and this Fraud issue,” the letter reads.
“Your continuous and relentless attempts to defame Nedu and Tokindrumz and tarnish their good and respected name are both unwarranted and damaging. Let it be clearly stated: Our Clients did not commit fraud against MSBM.
“In view of the above stated facts with supporting documents, we have instructions to solicit for the following options: a retraction of every video involving Nedu on every one of your platforms within 24 hours of receiving this notice.
“A public apology, published on every one of your platforms within 24 hours of receiving this notice and the sum of N500,000,000 (Five Hundred Million Naira) for damage to reputation caused.
“Take notice, where you render settlement inevitable, we have further instructions to seek the following reliefs by filing an action against you.
“While you are free to exercise your constitutionally guaranteed fundamental right to expression, said right should be used justly and carefully.
“You are only allowed to disseminate credible and factual information and not baseless accusations made to damage the reputation of any citizen. We hope that you address the issues raised.”
KanyiDaily recalls that VeryDarkMan also released an audio recording accusing Nedu Wazobia of associating with people involved in drug trafficking and fraud.
