Ogun State Police Command has dismissed claims made by controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, that he is receiving psychiatric treatment.
The police insisted that Portable is still wanted for allegedly attacking government officials and must turn himself in.
KanyiDaily recalls that police declared Portable wanted after he allegedly attacked three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development in Ota.
The officials—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were reportedly assaulted while carrying out their duties in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
According to reports, the government officials first met Portable’s father at Odogwu Bar, who claimed his son wasn’t around.
Shortly afterwards, Portable allegedly arrived with a gun and, along with nine other men, attacked the unarmed officials.
The victims sustained injuries but managed to escape and reported the incident to the police.
While nine of Portable’s associates were arrested, the singer reportedly fled and has been in hiding.
The police say they sent multiple invitations asking him to appear at their headquarters, but he ignored them and did not send any legal representatives.
After he was declared wanted by the police, Portable posted a video where he claimed that he is mentally ill and undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Aro, Abeokuta.
“I fear government. I am a Federal Government liability. I am a madman and take medications regularly. You can confirm from Aro Hospital—I have a patient card. I am not a thief; I help people,” Portable insisted.
However, the police spokesperson Omolola Odutola dismissed his claim, stating that Portable must present himself for investigation.
Odutola said, “Portable will come and submit himself. He cannot be in the psychiatric hospital in Aro.
“Everybody knows he is a wanted person. If he is in any facility, the police must be informed. He is a wanted man.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Portable recently criticized his father for not stepping in to defend him after he was declared wanted by the police.
