Kano State Police Command has banned all Sallah Durbar festivities for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations due to security concerns and the risk of potential disturbances.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced the decision on Friday at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, explaining that intelligence reports indicated possible attempts by certain groups to exploit the event for unrest.
He emphasized that after receiving credible intelligence suggesting that the event could be misused to incite disorder, authorities decided to ban all Durbar activities across the state for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
“In pursuit of a safe and secure celebration, and to maintain peace and public order, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has assessed the rising tensions and uncertainties surrounding the Durbar activities,” CP Bakori said.
“Following credible intelligence reports about plans to use the Durbar as a proxy for unrest, a ban has been placed on all Durbar activities throughout the state during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations.”
The Police Commissioner said the command reached this decision after extensive consultations with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders.
He advised worshippers to limit their activities to designated prayer grounds and adhere to security measures.
The restrictions include a ban on carrying suspicious objects, horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving.
Parents and guardians were also urged to ensure their children do not engage in disruptive behavior.
Bakori warned that anyone defying these orders would face legal consequences.
He reassured residents that security personnel had been deployed across the state to maintain peace during the celebrations and encouraged the public to prioritize unity and lawfulness.
“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us prioritize peace above all else, set aside our differences, and unite as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” he said.
The commissioner also urged residents to report any suspicious activities and provided emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
He encouraged the use of the NPF Rescue Me app for swift emergency response.
Meanwhile, Kano State Government has set aside N2.5 billion to fund quarterly mass weddings across its 44 local government areas in 2025.
